Job Description:
Job Description Job Description Summary: Responsible for the
delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment,
planning, implementation, and evaluation. Maintains accountability
for his/her own practice; provides nursing care for patients;
participates in patient and family teaching; and provides
leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary, nursing, and
other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for
professional nursing practice in the acute oncology care setting.
The Registered Nurse also delegates/provides direction to other
nursing personnel in the unit in accordance with their level of
experience and expertise. Typical Schedule: Casual: Monday-Thursday
8AM-4PM Job-Specific Duties As Evidenced by: Job-Specfic Duties As
Evidenced by: Provides skilled nursing care in accordance with
nurse practice acts 1. Delegates patient care appropriately to
other team members. Follows the Standards of Nursing Care as well
as the Nursing Process of assessment, planning, implementation, and
evlauation while delivering high quality patient care. 1. Follows
Oncology Nursing Society standards and maintains documentation
accordingly 2. Administers chemotherapy/biotherapy and other
infusions in the outpatient setting 3. Participates in the
interdisciplinary plan of care to ensure that quality nursing care
is provided 4. Utilizes community resources to enhance the care of
oncology patients 5. Serves in the patient case manager role as
needed Coordinates and facilitates clinic schedule for oncologist
1. Reviews charts prior to the oncology clinic day to ensure that
all necessary documention is organized and easily accessible for
the Oncologist 2. Pushes images to HP and faxes request for images
to be uploaded. 3. Facilitates scheduling of follow-up
appointments, chemotherapy appointments, and any tests ordered by
the Oncologist 4. Ensures that orders are addressed accurately and
timely. 5. Summarizes clinic updates and shares with team via
email. Continually strives to meet and exceed customer service
standards in all interactions with customers, which include
patients, visitors, other hospital employees, and medical staff 1.
Demonstrates a team/collaborative approach with colleagues 2. Helps
and supports co-workers and physicians 3. Helps and supports
patients and their families 4. Serves as the oncology expert in the
clinic/hospital/community Demonstrates critical thinking skills 1.
Applies knowledge base to clinical situation 2. Anticipates patient
needs 3. Prioritizes patient care based on individual,
departmental, and overall hospital patient needs 4. Initiates
appropriate inteventions in a timely manner Communicates
effectively 1. Interacts with physicians regarding patient status
on an on-going basis 2. Communicates effectively with all members
of the patient care team 3. Communicates patient status and plan of
care with patient and their family Attends staff meetings and
mandatory education 1. Takes initiative to complete all mandatory
education requirements including HealthStream without being
reminded 2. Attends 80% of department meetings annually. Maintains
appropriate licenses and certifications independently 1. Current
State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse license 2. Basic Life Support
(BLS) Certification 3. ONS Biotherapy administration certification

Ability to perform essential functions of a Registered Nurse ·
Knowledge of current nursing practices and technical skills ·
Maintains expertise in oncology nursing · Skilled in use of basic
patient care equipment and supplies · Ability to demonstrate and
maintain required competencies · Ability to recognize change in
patient condition/body systems · Knowledge of infection control
practices and their relation to patient care outcomes · Accuracy
and attention to detail in performing all job duties · Ability to
assess multiple systems, develop plan of care, provide intervention
and education, and assess outcomes of patient care · Ensure that
all physician orders are transcribed accurately and carried out as
soon as possible · Ability to effectively participate in the
interdisciplinary care team · Ability to delegate to appropriate
care team members · Ability to develop and maintain effective
working relationships with patients, family members, and team mates
· Ability to effectively handle stress · Ability to communicate
clearly both orally and in writing · Ability to maintain
confidentiality per OMC HIPAA policy · Ability to provide age
appropriate and culturally appropriate care · Willingness and
ability to perform additional duties on an as needed basis ·
Willingness to participate in the orientation process of new staff
Qualifications: ·Graduate of accredited school of nursing · Prefer
6 months of acute care experience. (Oncology/Infusion experience
preferred) · Proficient keyboarding and computer skills · Ability
to learn OMC computer applications Licenses & Credentials:
·Currently licensed in the state of Wisconsin as a Registered Nurse
in good standing · ONS Biotherapy & Chemotherapy Administration
Certification · OCN (preferred to be obtained) · Current BLS,
certification or willing to obtain · Meets OMC health
requirements
