features.About The JobThe Chief Finance Manager / Officer (CFM/CFO)
is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the
Humphrey School of Public Affairs, ensuring effective budgeting,
compliance, financial reporting, and internal controls. This
position serves as an advisor to the Dean and Executive Leadership
Team on financial matters, providing insight and analysis to
support decision-making while ensuring fiscal responsibility across
the School.The CFM/CFO manages a team and will participate in
leadership meetings related to financial planning, compliance, and
resource allocation, ensuring financial stewardship aligns with
institutional goals.Key Responsibilities
- Financial Strategy & Leadership Support (30%)
- Serve as the primary financial advisor to the Dean and
Executive Leadership Team on budgeting, forecasting, and financial
health.
- Participate in leadership discussions, retreats, and
decision-making forums impacting strategic goals.
- Collaborate with the Dean to develop financial models,
projections, and reports to support initiatives.
- Ensure financial decisions align with the School's mission and
priorities.
- Budgeting, Forecasting & Fiscal Oversight (30%)
- Manage the annual budgeting process, revenue projections, and
fund allocation.
- Provide financial reporting and analysis for fiscal performance
across funding sources.
- Collaborate with the University Budget Office and Central
Financial Services to adhere to policies.
- Financial Compliance & Risk Management (20%)
- Maintain internal controls and compliance within policies.
- Oversee audit preparations, grant reporting, and risk
assessments.
- Partner with Sponsored Projects Administration for grant
financials.
- Supervision & Process Improvement (20%)
- Manage and supervise financial staff.
- Implement process improvements for efficiency and
transparency.
- Ensure transactions and reporting meet standards.Work
Environment & Expectations
- Engage with leadership on financial matters and manage daily
operations.
- Participate in leadership discussions and meetings as
needed.
- Some evening and weekend work may be required.
- Hybrid work arrangements are available; onsite presence at
least three days a week, with Wednesdays as a common
day.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business
administration, or related field.
- Eight+ years of professional finance experience, preferably in
higher education or complex environments.
- Experience managing budgets, forecasting, analysis, and
compliance.
- Ability to analyze complex data and provide strategic
recommendations.
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills.Preferred
Qualifications
- Willingness to complete coursework for Certified Approver
status.
- Master's degree in related fields.
- Experience in grant management and university budget
models.
- Knowledge of University of Minnesota financial systems and
policies.
- Experience managing a financial team.About The DepartmentThe

$122,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.Time
Appointment: 75%-100%.Position Type: Faculty and P&A
